Delaware Tech Volleyball Players Earn 2023 All-Conference Honors

November 10, 2023

Delaware Technical Community College women’s volleyball players Megan Carroll and Ashley Kelly earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC) All-Conference honors for the 2023 season.

Carroll, a freshman elementary education major from Smyrna High School, led the team in kills with 157, assists with 229, aces with 51, total attempts with 628, and was third in digs with 184. She also had 8 assisted blocks and 2 solo blocks.

“It feels great to be an all-conference player,” Carroll said. “I worked hard all season to get where I am at now and receiving this honor as a freshman this feels even better.”

Carroll’s first season at Delaware Tech was a bit of an adjustment because she alternated between being an outside hitter, her natural position, and being the team’s setter, something she had only played sparingly. She said playing both positions allowed her to be more successful since she was involved in all aspects of the game.

“I was never a setter till my senior year of high school, so I feel like I knew what I was doing, and I was ready to take that role of setting. Being a setter, you have to be the quarterback of the team call out plays and get the ball to your hitters.”

Kelly, a sophomore elementary education major from Delaware Military Academy, was tied for first on the team in digs with 192, second in total attempts with 424, third in kills with 107, and third in aces with 33. She also had 21 assists and 7 assisted blocks.

“It means a lot to me to be named an all-conference player,” Kelly said. “It’s nice to know others noticed my hard work, and it feels like that hard work really paid off.”

As with Carroll, Kelly moved around to multiple positions throughout the year to try and best help the team. She also served as co-captain this year, meaning it was up to her to set the tone for her teammates.

“I think what led to my individual success this year was keeping a positive mindset and having the support of my amazing teammates,” Kelly said.

In addition, Head Coach Leigh DeSantis was named EPAC Co-Coach of the Year along with the head coach from Leigh Carbon Community College. DeSantis guided the team to a 7-14 overall record, and a 4-4 record in the conference.
